01 The challenge
Energy consumption could only be seen at the site level, so nobody could tell which departments or plant were driving cost. Healthcare Technical Memorandum (HTM) ventilation checks across well over a hundred systems were recorded manually, which consumed engineering hours and had been flagged as a gap in a recent NHS audit.
02 What we did
- Sub-metering and BMS integration giving electricity, gas, heat and water consumption by building, floor and department
- Energy analytics dashboards with baselines, anomaly detection and out-of-hours waste alerts
- Automated ventilation compliance monitoring — air-change rates, pressure differentials and filter status logged continuously against HTM requirements
- Audit-ready reporting generated on demand, with exceptions routed to the estates team
- Delivered around live clinical operations with no disruption to critical areas
03 The results
- Double-digit percentage reduction in energy consumption in the first year
- Nearly all ventilation systems monitored automatically rather than by manual check
- No compliance gaps in the following NHS audit
- Engineering time freed from routine checks for planned maintenance
