A multi-destination itinerary meant logging into airline, hotel, transfer and excursion systems one by one, copying prices into a document and emailing it — by which time availability had often changed. High-intent customers were leaving for online travel agents offering real-time confirmation, and agents' time went on admin rather than selling.
