Modernising a university's learning platform into a mobile-first digital campus

A university's fifteen-year-old learning management system was frustrating students and burdening staff. We replaced it with a mobile-first digital campus that brought timetables, content, assessment and engagement analytics into one experience.

01 The challenge

Student satisfaction with the digital experience was low and mobile use was minimal because the legacy LMS barely worked on a phone. Learning tools had accumulated around it — video, quizzes, submissions, forums — each with its own login. Faculty spent hours on administration and had no early warning when a student was disengaging.

02 What we did

  • New learning platform designed mobile-first, with a native app and single sign-on across every tool
  • Content and grade migration from the legacy system, course by course, with academic sign-off
  • Integrated timetable, submissions, feedback and discussion in one place for students
  • Engagement analytics flagging at-risk students to tutors early, with intervention workflows
  • Faculty tools that cut routine administration — bulk actions, templates and automated reminders
  • Launched over one academic year with a pilot faculty first

03 The results

  • Student satisfaction with the digital experience rose sharply after launch
  • Most students moved to mobile within the first semester
  • Lecture and course engagement increased several-fold
  • Earlier intervention for at-risk students, supporting retention

Sendtra: home-to-school transport management and a driver app for a UK local council

Councils run hundreds of daily home-to-school journeys for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Sendtra gives the transport office one place to plan routes, allocate drivers and passenger assistants, and see every journey happening — with a driver app that replaces paper run sheets.
